We recently posted about the wonderful and historic Statler Hilton building in downtown Dallas. In that post, we mentioned that the building is looking to be repurposed as residential, with fabulous views of the Main St Park. What we didn’t know then, but know now, is that there are concerns about whether or not the current financial backer, Jack Matthews, will follow-through with his purchase.
We aren’t a blog that wants to take political sides in things, especially when we only know the public parts of a story. In this case, we are adding our voice to the choir that sings for preservation. Mr. Matthews has done an incredible job of revitalizing South Dallas, including the wildly popular South Side on Lamar lofts (formerly the Sears Catalog Merchandise Warehouse) and NYLO Dallas (formerly the Dallas Coffin Company).
We do so hope that Mr. Matthews is able to continue his tradition of purchasing, rehabbing, and releasing great old buildings back into the community for appreciation and consumption.
