There were some spectacular doors in Zanzibar. I mean, really, truly stunning doors. They varied in shape, color, style, state of disrepair — and they were all beautiful. (If you’ve read this blog for a while, or looked up at our header, you know that we LOVE doors!) We learned that there are two styles of doors on the island: Arabic (square) and Indian (minaret). There are doors with elephant spikes which are for decoration only – as Zanzibar has no elephants – but were a show of wealth.

Here’s a smattering of our favorite doors, as seen through the eye of our fantastic photographer, and my dear hubs: Steven (website) [click to enlarge]:

Stone Town was a feast for the senses. If you’re ever on that side of the world, the Attic Birds highly suggest a few days on Zanzibar!
