There is a booth at Marburger that has given a few heart palpitations over the years – I’ve drooled from a distance for longer than I’d like to admit. It belongs to Ladybag International and Branded Luxury Unlimited, a power couple in designer leather goods. Feeling assured that I could will myself to not fall in love, I entered their space and was delighted that Adrienne Astrologo – as fabulous as her name – was open to telling her story.
This, my friends, is a love story. Once upon a time, there was a man named Marco Astrologo. He and Adrienne met, married, and she found herself helping with his antique business – though, at the time, he was dealing in rugs, lamps, and other larger items. Adrienne, a former fixture in the Garment District, maintains that “fashion is life”, and wanted her own space within Astrologo’s shows. She started with designer bags from her closet, on a small table in his show booths — and has since expanded into the opulent space she now shares (if not dominates) with her husband.
As I perused her shelves, it was quickly revealed that I have
expensive excellent taste, as each item I admired had a sticker price higher than the last. Hello, Chanel — you look like the kind of gal one likes to keep close. Oh Hermès, you and I share an initial! Goyard, Vuitton, nice to see you — seems like you’ve gotten this trunk thing down to an art…. Can we talk about the benefits of investing in classics?!
When I told Adrienne that she had an amazing selection of designer goods, she said “I should! I wrote the book on handbags!” A quick internet search reveals this wasn’t an off-handed comment, rather she really did write High Fashion Handbags: Classic Vintage Designs!
Many thanks to Ladybag International and Branded Luxury Unlimited.
