As the super-solar days of Texas come to an end, we bask in the hot trend of sunburst mirrors. Most every genre and style of decor has a showing, be it primitive, mod, European, and everything in between.
The history of sunburst mirrors is a bit murky, though most roads lead back to the “Sun King” himself – King Louis XIV of France. You can read some reflections from the Wall Street Journal and House Appeal. Whatever the case, one can certainly appreciate the influence that classic religious iconography mixed with a hint of the Gilded Age has had on the mirrors we now see.
When in doubt, add gold or shine — at least, that’s what the Attic Birds say! Kidding aside, sunburst mirrors are a great addition to any room, adding light, shine, and a hint of whimsy. In fact, some of the smaller mirrors grouped together on a wall would be an incredible and glinting statement.
Marburger Farm has an incredible array of antiques–something for everyone (and every price range). It’s both fun and interesting to see a trend that unites the spectrum, especially over that is shines so brightly.

the Attic Birds 
The first is actually a Monstrance which is used to hold a blessed host for adoration. Not used much today, you see these all over France in antique stores as well as in church treasuries. The center is usually crystal pocket to hold the host. If this one really has a mirror there, it has been added where the crystal would have been.
